Did you notice?

The NYSAWWA Spring Meeting is just around the corner - April 2009. We always welcome vendors to this event. Exposure to NY's water industry makes our Spring Meeting a valuable event for our members and vendors.

New York's Water Event '09

The 2009 New York’s Water Event in Saratoga Springs was a sure success with nearly 100 vendors and over 800 attendees.  Thank you to Phil Tangorra, Events Committee Chair, for coordinating the on-site check-in and registration throughout the event.

This year’s Water Event was visited by Tom Curtis, AWWA Deputy Executive Director for Governmental Affairs, as our keynote speaker.   Mr. Curtis presented a fascinating keynote address regarding infrastructure and liquid assets – important topics in today’s water industry.  Mr. Curtis was joined by Jack Dunn from the New York State Department of Health and James Flaherty EFC’s Director to the Division of Engineering and Program Management,  for a roundtable discussion at the end of the presentationto show various viewpoints on the topics at hand and to promote thought provoking dialogue among all attendees.

The program committee once again put together a fascinating range of topics for this year’s event, and all the sessions were well attended.  We would like to thank Dan Seaver, Chair of the Program Committee, for his hard work and dedication in coordinating a successful program and overall event. This year’s session topics included:

  • Donuts with Department of Health
  • Analysis and Control of Coagulation Processes
  • Operator Training
  • Infrastructure: Evaluation, Rehabilitation & Construction
  • Distribution Systems
  • Water Quality, Watershed & Pharmaceuticals
  • Workforce Issues
  • Groundwater
  • Advanced Treatment Technologies
  • Global Climate, Sustainability & Water Reuse

Our annual Operator Training Day was held on Wednesday, April 22. Certified operators were given the opportunity to attend the day at a special rate and gain several continuing education credits and participate in various operator based activities.  Two of the morning sessions were specifically designed with operators in mind and throughout the day, various product demonstrations were held throughout the exhibit hall in an effort to showcase the latest products and services.

Towards the conclusion of Wednesday, the Meter Madness and Top Operators competitions were held, bringing fun and excitement after a day of educational opportunities.  We would also like to thank Dan Reed, the MAC Chair, for coordinating the exhibits, demonstrations and operator training day events.

The annual banquet was held on Tuesday evening, and was an emotional, educational, and inspirational evening for all.  Past Chair, John Frazer presented a brief history of NYSAWWA as this year was the Section’s 95th Anniversary.  This year’s outgoing Chair, Shyam Mohanka, graciously passed his position to Connie Schreppel, whose remarks were both  inspiring and emotional.
