What we do

We are a forum for water supply professionals in their efforts to assure the delivery of drinking water, one of civilization's greatest resources. Using our members' knowledge and experience, we aim to be an outstanding resource on drinking water.

The New York Section supports the work of water quality professionals through:

  • Training and Credentialing: The regional trainings held across New York State throughout the year, and the workshops, presentations, and seminars of the Tifft Water Symposium and the annual Spring event help water quality professionals earn the continuing education credits they need to maintain licenses and stay up-to-date on the latest regulations, technology, and methods of operation.
  • Networking: the Section's trainings and conferences provide members with opportunities to share information and discuss solutions to common problems. Newcomers to the water community have a chance to learn from more experienced members as well as each other.
  • Advocacy: Through the Water Utility Council and its legislative and regulatory reviews and the national AWWA government affairs office, members are regularly updated on state and national actions that impact how they provide service to millions of customers throughout New York state. The Section and national offices take action with policy-makers as appropriate and allowable by law for the Section's 501(c)3 status.
  • Resources: not only do members gain access to the resources of the Section, but their membership entitles them to the vast resources offered by the AWWA at www.awwa.org.
  • Aquarius: Our newsletter, published each Spring and Fall, focuses on activities and issues at the State and local level. See the most recent issue.
