Students
The New York Section AWWA is committed to supporting students who are pursuing a career in the water community.
Student Members
Students, defined as individuals enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours (or the equivalent) of accredited classes, are eligible for a student membership of $28 per year. As a member, students receive 12 months of AWWA benefits and are automatically associated with the New York Section.

Student Chapters
Students can enhance their experience with the AWWA and the New York Section by forming student chapters on campus. To form a chapter, students need permission from the college/university and the commitment of a faculty member to serve as chapter advisor. Students can elect a slate of officers for the chapter and determine their meeting schedule and agenda topics. The Section will support the chapter by providing speakers and support materials. Section members are encouraged to contact student chapter members when seeking interns and/or new employees.

Scholarships
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the water supply sector will experience a 45% growth rate in the near future, as customer demand, regulations, and the need to replace an aging water distribution infrastructure grow. At the same time, the water community expects to lose 37% of its water utility workers to retirement. And fewer young people are looking to join the field.
To encourage students to consider careers in the water industry, the New York Section AWWA offers two scholarships for undergraduates and one scholarship for graduate students:
